The Government continues its attack on Anna’s team – anti-national, politically driven, etc ..

You know that your attacks are hitting home when the attacked is driven to issue statements that are all over the place, like the fulmination of a person who does not know what to do. So, ever since the recent series of attacks on the Prime Minister by team Anna (which have unfortunately not been used by any major opposition party – the BJP is too preoccupied with its own internal problems to serve as an effective opposition, the Left is a minor vestige of its earlier opposition self and the other parties not with the party seem to be supporting the Government tacitly), the Government seems to have decided to increase the dirty tricks department as well as all other efforts to reduce the credibility of team Anna. There are a number of different statements made by the Government, and they do nothing but reduce the remaining respect that the Government has.
So, the Government has ditched some of the more discredited attackers of the past such as Digvijay Singh, and got more apparently polished and urbane folks such as Salman Khurshid. It seems incredulous that the Government ministers accuse the members of team Anna of being funded by the foreign hand, essentially calling the team members anti-national. There are many allegations that Anna’s team is being funded by the Ford Foundation, in turn funded by the CIA. Further, since the team comprises of Magsaysay Award winners as well (Kiran Bedi and Arvind Kejriwal), which is a foreign award, so the team is comprised of essentially anti-national members who are trying to prevent the forward march of the patriotic and nationalistic Congress Party. One would laugh, but are forced to cry when one sees the state that the country has been reduced to. For starters, the Magsaysay Award award is an international award (wikipedia), given to accomplished people in the area of public life. It is a very honorable award, and is controlled by the Phillipines Government. One can be sure that pretty much none of the Congress ministers is every likely to come on the radar for such an award; however, if there is an award given by the Indian government, then they will get such an award.

It is shameful right now. There have never been a Government in the past that has had so many scams revealed, and that too with such regularity and involving such huge sums. And yet, the Government can only deny and waffle, or even more insulting to the intelligence, they say that you should believe us; after all, the Prime Minister has his own personal honesty. And I say, that if a Prime Minister allows such huge scams and corruption to go on, then he is even more guilty than the others. The legacy that Dr. Manmohan Singh hoped to pass on is now in tatters, and one would think that he will go down in history as the head of one of the most corrupt Governments in the history of India. What could have saved him was if he had decided to take a new turn, and setup a powerful system of investigators and anti-corruption effort, but he truly deserves all those names with which he has been called in the recent past, and shown himself to be truly a person with a bent and weak spine.
India right now is a country that can do real well, but it needs the right policies of the Government and a supportive officialdom, and there is no doubt that the country needs huge sums of money for its infrastructure (given the amount of money needed, it needs foreign investment). In such a scheme, there is also the need for ensuring that there is transparency. However, the situation is entirely different. When claims of huge losses are brought up, and that too by a respected body such as the CAG, the Government dismisses this as coming from a biased mindset, and instead of trying to showcase some quick independent investigations, the Government is only increasing the feeling that it has lots to hide. This is compounded by the fact that the next generation of economic reforms, that have been talked about for many years now, are just not happening.
Right now, as of this moment, the international credit rating agency, S&P is threatening that government inaction and fiscal deficit are going to be the prime reasons for the country being moved downwards from investment grade. Even though elements of the Government dismiss S&P as a unworthy credit rating agency, the fact remains that these ratings are used to determine whether a country can be invested into, and many international funds (such as pension funds) are prohibited from investing in countries that are below investment grade; and it makes it even more difficult for Indian companies to get funds from outside India, or will have to pay higher rates of interest to get such funds. At the start of the UPA, the Government seemed to try and catch China in terms of growth, since that is the way to get the poor out of their poverty, and now China is far ahead, and people are looking at India as the slow pondering elephant, unable to get its act together.
