Soren to become Chief Minister with BJP support

The recent elections in BJP had multiple claimants, with the JMM of Shibu Soren, the BJP, the Congress, and the smaller parties of RJD, Babulal Marandi, and Madhu Koda trying to get his wife to the assembly. In the past, Shibu Soren has had the support of the Congress and was even a Minister in the Manmohan Singh cabinet before having to resign after having been convicted by a court of murder. He was seen mostly in the UPA camp, with the BJP claiming to be a party of its own power, yet having committed a self-goal by having kicked out Marandi.
The recent elections threw up a fractured verdict, with the JMM, the Congress and the BJP all sharing the proceeds, and no one having come close to victory in the 81 member assembly. So it was quite obvious that somebody will have to agree to share to form a Government, and in this case, it was the BJP that decided to buckle down and agreed to support the JMM to form the Government. The BJP, if you leave aside a few parties such as the JD(U), has had problems in terms of forming alliances, so one is unsure as to how long this alliance will last.

Climate deal brokered by some of the countries at Copenhagen

After so much media attention, finally “some sort of deal” was struck in Copenhagen. But you can imagine the constraints in reaching a conclusion:
1. The science for Climate change is such that there will always be doubters, and unfortunately, the best proof will be only available when the effects of climate change will truly kick in (you already have Artic ice melting, shelfs of the Antartic splitting, glaciers retreating, coastal erosion, and so on). However, it is only when more catastrophic effects start kicking in will there be a realization that maybe things are now too late
2. The economics are staggering. To pull back on emissions means that changes have to happen economy wide, and with the recession going on, economies are loath to make such committments (although many of the economies were unwilling to commit even when they were not in recession)

Advani finally replaced by Sushma Swaraj as Leader of opposition

For some time now, it has been reported that the RSS has been taking over the leadership decision making of the Bhartiya Janta Party, and today you could see the first step in this direction. Till now, there was news that Advani will resign, Rajnath Singh will go at the end of his 3 year term (due December end), and people with younger blood will take over, both in terms of parliamentary and party leadership. As a part of this plan, Nitin Gadkarni has been projected as the next BJP chief, and it is not a coincidence that he is from Nagpur, the headquarters of the RSS.
The RSS believes itself to be the parent organization of the BJP, and enough people in the BJP believe that to be true, enough people to let this decision making happen. The RSS has not been comfortable with Advani ever since he praised Jinnah and was forced out of the Party President position, and it is also true that he is 82 years old, and it would be impossible to project him to be the leader of the BJP in the coming years. Trying to get a new leader is also an attempt to ensure that decision making about the next leader happens, rather than the constant skirmish among the second level leaders in the party.
